Age Concern Bromley

Age Concern Bromley is the leading voluntary sector provider of services for older people working across the Borough with a reputation for quality and value.

Established in 1965 it is an independent charity, responsible for its own policy, direction and funding.  Age Concern Bromley is a subscribing member of the national Age Concern federation of charities who share common aims and values and work together for the benefit of all older people at national, regional and local level.

Age Concern Bromley does not receive funding from the federation but is an active member, raising policy and campaign issues that may benefit from work at national and regional level whilst pursuing locally, campaign and social policy issues raised by the national body Age Concern England and Help the Aged (merged 1st April 2009) and the regional body Age Concern London.

Mission, values and aims
Age Concern Bromley aims to promote the well being of all older people in the London Borough of Bromley.  We value older people and believe that later life should be a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

Our specific aims are to:
• provide quality Borough-wide services and support for all older people
• raise awareness of the needs of older people and influence decision makers, and provide a voice for older people in the Borough through public education and social advocacy
• to contribute to research which identifies the changing needs of older people locally and to find innovative ways of meeting them
• to challenge age-discrimination
• to work in partnership and co-operation with other organisations to effectively meet the needs of older people throughout the Borough

Age Concern Bromley has a Management Board of Trustees who are responsible for the governance of the charity.  The Trustees do not receive any payment for their work.  The Director is responsible for the management of the charity and the wholly owned trading subsidiary company, Age Concern Services (Bromley) Ltd.

The Director manages a small team of full and part-time professional staff and dedicated, trained volunteers.  Age Concern Bromley is committed to maintaining and improving its services and procedures through continuous review and accreditation with external quality standards. To this end, Age Concern Bromley has achieved and continues to retain the following external quality marks: Investors in People, Community Legal Services and ISO 9001:2000 and the environmental management ISO 14001:2004

We also fully meet the Age Concern Federation quality mark – “Quality Counts”, which is Charity Commission endorsed.

Whilst Age Concern Bromley’s work is partially funded through contracts with Bromley Council and NHS Trusts to provide specific services, we rely heavily on the public’s support through donations, legacies and fundraising events to enable us to deliver the range of services and activities for older people in the Borough.

Our main office is in Community House in the centre of Bromley and we have three satellite sites in Mottingham, Chislehurst and West Wickham and undertake outreach work in other parts of the Borough throughout the year.
