The Glades & The Community
St Christopher’s Fun Walk
As many of us are beginning to think of fun things to do to get the whole family fit for summer, why not think of helping St Christopher’s as well? On Sunday 31 May 2009, St Christopher’s will be holding its Fun Walk, designed to provide a great day out for people of all ages and ability. The walk, which is held every two years, will take place in and around Keston Common.
There are walks to suit most abilities; three, five, eight and eleven miles. Medals will be awarded to all walkers and trophies will be presented to the individual and team that raises the most sponsorship. In addition, the youngest and oldest walkers will receive special awards and there is a ‘special endeavour prize’ for outstanding effort and an award for the walker wearing the best fancy dress.
“We always look forward to the Fun Walk as it provides a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together,” commented Barbara Monroe, chief executive, St Christopher’s Hospice. “This year we hope to raise £200,000 to support our new project in local care homes to extend our care and improve the quality of life of their residents as they approach the end of their lives.”
Since it began in 1990, the Fun Walk has regularly attracted around 3,000 walkers. The hospice hopes that this year many more South London residents will put their best foot forward to raise funds for this very worthy cause.
Anyone over 18 can register on line at www.stchristophers.org.uk/funwalk, those wishing to take part under 18 can download an entry form from the website or call the Fun Walk hotline on 020 8768 4577.
