CSC’s the Glades hands over vital funds for breast cancer

A senior executive from Capital Shopping Centres has presented a cheque for £1,000 to a local breast cancer charity in Bromley following the success of a fundraising fashion show at the Glades shopping centre in October.

Alexander Nicoll, CSC’s Director of Corporate Responsibility, visited the Glades to present the cheque to Mr Anil Desai, Consultant Breast Surgeon at Farnborough’s Princess Royal University Hospital, along with the Glades’ General Manager, Howard Oldstein, and Marketing Manager, Maria Cooper.

The charity fashion show was the highlight of the Glades’ activities for this year’s breast cancer awareness fortnight. Introduced by Mr Desai, the spectacular catwalk event featured models who were either breast cancer patients – whether still being treated or in remission – or health staff from the hospital’s specialist breast cancer ward.

Other events for October’s breast cancer awareness at the Glades included a sponsored treadmill marathon by staff and retailers from the shopping centre – including a 10-mile stint by General Manager, Howard Oldstein – that raised over £400. The shopping centre also promoted its ‘Bra of Inspiration’ – a supersized bra that comes to life as shoppers add paper roses, purchased for a suggested donation of £1, as a tribute to a friend or loved one who has been touched by cancer. Anyone who placed a rose also had the opportunity to write an inspirational message or dedication to attach to the reverse of the display.

Funds from the cheque presented to Mr Desai will benefit the Lymph Node Analyser Appeal (LNAA), the cause selected by the Glades as its nominated charity for a period of 18 months. A lymph node analyser – a device that gives test results on the day of biopsy, avoiding anxious waiting time for patients – has been purchased for the Princess Royal University Hospital, but funds are required to resource it.

Alexander Nicoll, CSC’s Director of Corporate Responsibility, noted, “It’s always a great pleasure to visit our centres to recognise their fundraising efforts. The importance of corporate social responsibility projects such as the Glades’ LNAA fundraising should never be underestimated.”
